Ordinary People, Extraordinary Career National Campaign
In December 2009, the Communities and Local Government Department launched the “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Career” National Campaign. The aim of the campaign is to break down myths and barriers in the way people perceive Fire and Rescue Services and to encourage people from groups currently under represented in the work force to consider a Fire and Rescue Service career.
Ordinary People, Extraordinary Careers is designed to raise awareness of, and change attitudes to, a career in the Fire and Rescue Service among currently under-represented groups. The campaign focuses on 14-16 year old girls and people from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
A new website has been created specifically for the national campaign and provides case studies, information about the roles available, videos, interactive games and items which people visiting the site can download. To view the website, click here
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) is supporting this campaign and is actively encouraging local communities to consider a career within the Service. This will support the work undertaken locally through the Outreach Strategy 2009-13.
LFRS normally runs a recruitment campaign once a year for wholetime (full time) firefighters. If you are interested in a wholetime career, please click here to register your interest.
We also recruit retained (part time) firefighters and this is done throughout the year depending on operational requirements. If you are interested in a retained role then please indicate so in the space provided on the registration form. Please note that you will need to live within four minutes of a fire station that operates a retained duty system.
