There are two types of availability:
Full cover – 120 hours or more per week
(If released from full time employer during the day or self employed)
3/4 Cover – Less than 120 hours per week
It is a requirement that you must be able to attend your local Station, without contravening Road Traffic Regulations, within four minutes so as to permit the turnout of an appliance within five minutes of the receipt of a call at the Station, and to maintain this availability during each day.
It is also a requirement to attend for drill and maintenance duties, for a period normally not exceeding three hours per week.
Retained Firefighter Salary
Your salary will be based on the cover you give and the phase you are currently working to:
Full cover - 120 hours or more per week:
- Phase 1 - Training £1,992, Hourly rate £9.09, Disturbance £3.48
- Phase 2 - Development £2,075.04, Hourly rate £9.47, Disturbance £3.48
- Phase 3 - Competent £2,655, Hourly rate £12.12, Disturbance £3.48
Pay scales are reviewed in November each year.
3/4 Cover - Less than 120 hours per week:
- Phase 1 - Training £1,494, Hourly rate £9.09, Disturbance £3.48
- Phase 2 - Development £1,556.28, Hourly rate £9.47, Disturbance £3.48
- Phase 3 - Competent £1,991.28, Hourly rate £12.12, Disturbance £3.48
Pay scales are reviewed in November each year.
