The CFA is the 'governing body' of your local Fire & Rescue Service and is made up from 17 elected members; its constitution is proportionate to the number of local government electors in each of the constituent authorities and reflects the political make up of the constituent authorities.
Their role is to provide an efficient Fire and Rescue Service within its area in accordance with various legislative requirements covering the provision of service. The Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004 sets out the principal expectations for the Service.
Central Government, via the Department for Communities and Local Government, also has a responsibility for the Fire & Rescue Service and its partnership with the CFA is set out in a National Framework document.
