Service Headquarters

The project to build the headquarters and the fire station involves a significant capital expense, which has been approved by the Combined Fire Authority (CFA). To ensure that there are appropriate controls and visibility of such significant spending, the project will be managed as part of the Service Development Programme. Alongside the internal project team, Pick Everard are working with us to provide architectural expertise and ensure that the buildings meet our requirements.

The new headquarters has been designed to create an open environment which aims to encourage team working and allow teams to interact more freely. The building includes break out areas for less formal discussions, and fully functional conference and meeting facilities. The design is fully Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant including a lift. The building has also been designed to be environmentally efficient and so will have lower maintenance and running costs than our current headquarters building.

The new headquarters building will be very different to the current headquarters. Teams currently working at Southern Fire and Rescue Station and Service Headquarters will be moving to the new building, and the amenities in the building will be different. This means that in some cases we will have to look at how we do things. Part of the project will involve a review of business processes to ensure that things happen in the most appropriate way and processes are designed to be as efficient as possible.
