To introduce the Regional Management Board, please see below a letter from the chairman, Peter Roffey:
Dear Colleague
As I’m sure you are aware by now the East Midlands Regional Management Board is a joint committee of the five fire and rescue authorities (Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire) in the East Midlands, consisting of two elected members from each authority.
The Government clearly laid out in their National Framework 2004/05 document that they expect Regional Management Boards to manage six specific areas of work:
The integration of common and specialist services within the fire and rescue services, such as fire investigation.
To put in place effective resilience plans for large scale emergencies
To introduce regional personnel and human resource functions in fire and rescue services
To develop a regional approach to training for fire and rescue service personnel
To establish Regional Control Centres (where fire and rescue service 999 calls will be answered)
To introduce regional procurement within the context of a national government procurement strategy.
We have made significant progress in many of these areas over the last two years. Please see our new annual report and business plan attached for your information. You can find out more about us on our website at www.emrmb-fire.gov.uk.
With regards
Councillor Peter Roffey
