New Recruits Needed For Melton Prince’s Trust Team Programme
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, in partnership with the Prince’s Trust, will
soon be recruiting for the next TEAM programme to run in Melton Mowbray.
The course will commence on 21st January at Brooksby Melton College and will
complete on 11th April 2008.
The programme brings together a diverse mix of up to 15 young people with a wide
range of abilities, personal circumstances and backgrounds and is particularly suited
to young people who face many barriers and lack the opportunities to reach their full
potential, including long term unemployed, offenders and ex-offenders, young people
in or leaving care and the socially excluded, who are ready to move forward in their
lives. It is a programme that aims to re-engage young people, helping them to think
about their futures.
Each young person has the potential to gain nationally recognised qualifications
during the programme.
The TEAM programme is FREE to unemployed young people aged between 16 and
25 years old and benefits are not affected.
We are also looking for potential Community Projects. These tend to involve painting
& decorating at community venues or completing a ‘Ground Force’ style revamp on a
garden area.
To apply to join the next TEAM programme or to talk about a potential project in your
community, please contact Jenni Stewart on 07966 111211 or on 0116 2872241 and
ask for the Prince’s Trust.
Use it or lose it – if we cannot recruit 12-15 young people on this Melton Team we
may have to consider moving to another location.
Note to Editors
Background
The Prince’s Trust key target groups are those who are unemployed, in and leaving care,
young offenders/ex-offenders and educational under-achievers. The variety of backgrounds
and experience which make up a Team is a unique ingredient which contributes significantly
to the development of all Team members, offering individuals the opportunity to develop
within a different peer group.
The programme re-engages young people by enabling them to develop the skills, confidence
and motivation to increase their employability and help them get their lives working. It also
offers the opportunity for young people to achieve nationally recognised qualifications.
The Team experience encourages and helps young people to find employment, or enter
education/training and to access any specialist help they may require on completion of their
12 weeks. In achieving these aims, the programme also develops the personal skills of
participants.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have been a Delivery Partner of the Prince’s Trust
Team programme since 1997 and to date have run 63 programmes in Leicester, 15 in
Loughborough, 3 in Rutland and 6 in Coalville with over 1100 participants. Leicestershire was
one of the first Fire Services in the country to see the potential for a partnership with The
Prince’s Trust as a conduit to its working with some of the hardest to reach groups in the
community.
