FIRE DAMAGES FACTORY ON LEYCROFT ROAD

Shortly after 2:20am this morning Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service received a call to a factory fire on Leycroft Road in the Beaumont Leys area of the city.

Crews from Western, Eastern, Central, Wigston and Syston Fire and Rescue Stations attended with around 40 firefighters dealing with the incident at its height.

The fire started in a food fryer in a building approximately 100 by 100 metres in size. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus spent over two hours tackling the blaze, their job made more difficult by thick, black acrid smoke inside the building.

Fire investigators have been on scene all morning and are due to re-inspect at approximately 4pm this afternoon.
