Fire and Rescue Service Pleased to Report a Relatively Quiet Bonfire Period
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are pleased to report a relatively quiet few
days during the bonfire festivities.
Between Friday 2 November and Monday 5 November, Leicestershire Fire and
Rescue Service were called to a total of 323 incidents; only 67 of these were bonfire
related and 7 were firework related. None of these incidents resulted in any injuries.
Tim Herbert, Head of Community Safety, said:
‘It is reassuring for us that we have had a relatively quite few days and a sign
that our safety campaign is working in making the community aware of the
dangers around the bonfire and fireworks.
However, Diwali is fast approaching and I would like to take this opportunity
to remind people of the possible dangers at this time of year and by asking
that you follow a few simple safety tips in order to avoid these dangers and
enjoy the celebrations. So please remember to:
• Never leave candles/divas unattended and always place them in stable
holder on a suitable surface that cannot melt
• Only use enough ghee for a diva to last your Puja
• Treat fireworks with great caution and only buy fireworks marked with
British Safety Standard 7114
• Make sure that your home has at least one working smoke alarm on every
floor of your property
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service wish you all a happy and safe Diwali.’
