Fire Crews Rescue Man From Flat Fire
At 11:45pm on the 11 October Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service received a
call to a flat fire on Tuckers Road, Loughborough with reports of people still inside the
property.
Three crews from Loughborough Fire and Rescue Station attended to find one
woman had already left the property but a man was still inside.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus had to break through the front door to enter
the property where they found the man. He was rescued by firefighters who then
successfully extinguished the fire. The man was suffering from smoke inhalation and
was given oxygen therapy at the scene by ambulance crews.
The occupants of the property were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm. Occupants
of the surrounding properties were also alerted by the smoke alarm.
Trevor McIlwaine, Loughborough Fire and Rescue Station Manager said: -
‘These people are very fortunate to have escaped with relatively minor
injuries. Most people die in house fires that occur during the night.
Fortunately, in this case, a working smoke alarm alerted them to the fire.
Smoke alarms provide vital early warning when a fire breaks out, which
is often during the night. I strongly urge everyone to fit and maintain at
least one smoke alarm on each floor of their property. Never remove
the batteries from your smoke alarms and make sure that you check
they work on a regular basis.
Smoke alarms cost as little as five pounds and they really do save lives.
Home fire safety checks can help you to establish potential risks in the
home; we are particularly trying to target vulnerable groups in the
community. For more information about home fire safety checks please call
0116 287 2241’
The fire was started deliberately and is now being investigated by the Police.
Fire crews will now be re-visting the area to carryout free home fire safety checks
and fit free smoke alarms.
