FIRE AT SHIRES SHOPPING CENTRE

At shortly before 1:15pm today Leicetstershire Fire and Rescue Service received
several calls to reports of a fire at the Shires Shopping Centre in the City.

Crews from Central, Eastern, Western, Wigston, Coalville, Hinckley and Billesdon
stations were sent to deal with the incident.

On arrival firefighters found a large fire on the top floor of the newly built extension.
Initial reports suggested that there might have been people still inside the building.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire and were able to confirm
that no-one was trapped inside the building.

The fire had started in an area approximately 10 metres by 15 metres, containing
polystyrene and pallets. The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be subject to
investigation.

Crews have now finished damping down and will remain at the incident for
approximately another hour.

Further information will be released when available.
