PRINCE’S TRUST TEAM PRESENTATION
The end of Team presentation for Prince’s Trust Team 64 Leicester, delivered by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, currently in its 10th year as a Delivery Partner of the Prince’s Trust, will take place on Thursday 13 September 2007 at 2.30pm in the Banks Lounge, Leicester City Football Club (LCFC).
Team 64 Leicester started on Monday 25 June, based at LCFC, and thirteen young people will complete the course on Friday 14 September.
During their twelve week programme, Team 64 raised funds through a sponsored walk and a raffle. This money was then used to clear the overgrown BMX track at Gilmorton, Leicester.
Team members have also undertaken work placements at providers including Somerfields, Ellesmere College, RSPCA, Office Depot, Georges Hairdressing and the Prince’s Trust office in Leicester.
The Team Leader, Tony Mangan, said:
‘To work with a group of such motivated individuals who constantly strive to improve their own personal development and to help the local community is beyond imagination. These young people have placed a huge amount of work into achieving their qualifications and have shown the dedication and commitment to move their lives in the right direction.
I am very proud of them, and they should be proud of themselves. The team should also be congratulated for the fantastic benefit their hard work has brought to our local community.’
Attendees at the presentation will include:
The High Sheriff of Leicestershire – Mr Barry Jackson
The Chairman of Leicestershire County Council - Councillor Mike Jones
The Chairman of Rutland County Council - Councillor Chris Parsons
Chief Executive Officer of LCFC - Mr Tim Davies
Deputy Chief Constable – Mr David Lindley
Deputy Chief Fire and Rescue Officer of Leics and Rescue Service - Mr Ian Scarrott
2007 is the 10th anniversary of the Prince’s Trust Football Initiative, which was originally launched by HRH The Prince of Wales in August 1997.
The Football Initiative uses the appeal of the game and the practical support of professional football clubs to help young people on Prince’s Trust programmes to succeed. In particular the initiative aims to boost the confidence, motivation and team working skills of young people and help them to gain new qualifications.
The Football Initiative is supported by funding from the Premier League, PFA and Football Foundation and in ten years almost 11,000 young people across the country have benefited from the support of over 60 professional clubs.
Leicester City FC has supported 28 Prince’s Trust Teams run by Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service in the city since 1997. That support has included a team base at the stadium, match tickets, work placements, signed merchandise, CV writing sessions with club staff, coaching sessions, player visits, use of the Study Support Centre and facilities to hold presentation events.
We are extremely grateful to Tim Davies, LCFC Chief Executive, and Peter Jones LCFC Supporter Relations Manager, in particular for their huge contribution and to the numerous members of the playing and club staff who have, over the past 10 years, provided so much support for young people on the Team programme in Leicester. They literally have helped change young lives. To mark the 10th anniversary of the Football Initiative a plaque will be presented to Tim Davies, Chief Executive of LCFC.

BACKGROUND
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has been a Delivery Partner of the Prince’s Trust Team programme since 1997 and to date has run 84 Teams: 63 in Leicester, 15 in Loughborough, 3 in Rutland and 7 in Coalville, with over 1200 participants in total. Leicestershire was one of the first Fire Services in the country to see the potential for a partnership with the Prince’s Trust as a conduit to its working with some of the hardest to reach groups in the community.
Prince’s Trust Team is a full time 12-week programme of personal development for 16-25 year olds.
Teams of about 12-15 young people take part in a challenging and action-packed programme which begins with team-building activities, including a week at a residential activity centre, and includes team-work in the local community as well as work placements. It culminates in each Team presenting its achievements to an invited audience as they receive their certificates.
The Prince’s Trust key target groups are those who are unemployed, in and leaving care, young offenders/ex-offenders and educational under-achievers.
The variety of backgrounds and experience which make up a Team is a unique ingredient which contributes significantly to the development of all Team members, offering individuals the opportunity to develop with a different peer group.
The programme re-engages young people by enabling them to develop the skills, confidence and motivation to increase their employability and help them get their lives working. It also offers the opportunity for young people to achieve nationally recognised qualifications, including the City & Guilds Certificate in Personal, Teamwork and Community Skills.
The Team experience encourages and helps young people to find employment, or enter education/training. In achieving these aims, the programme also develops the personal skills of participants.
