Fire Service Pleased That Occupants Had Smoke Alarms Fitted
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended two incidents over the weekend
where smoke alarms alerted the occupants to the fires in their homes and enabled
them to escape their properties unharmed.
Firefighters from both Central and Loughborough Fire and Rescue Stations attended
the incidents on Brazil Street in Leicester on 18 February and Thorpe Acre road in
Loughborough on 17 February. Both were caused accidentally, one by an
overheated tumble dryer and the other by a faulty boiler.
Paul Percival, Community Safety Group Manager, said:
‘Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were concerned about the potential
dangers that these two incidents caused however we were also very pleased
to see that both occupants of the properties had smoke alarms fitted.
I want to urge people in the community to fit and maintain smoke alarms in
their homes as they could save your life. Those people without a working
smoke alarm are four times more likely to die in a fire than those who have
one so please make sure you have one.
Home fire safety checks can help you to establish potential risks in the home
and we are particularly trying to target the more vulnerable groups in the
community. For more information about home fire safety checks please call
0116 287 2241’
Firefighters are promoting the national campaign called ‘Pull Your Finger Out’ to
encourage more people to fit smoke alarms and to maintain and test them on a
regular basis.
