PAPER MILL FIRE - HAMILTON
At shortly after 11pm on the 27 January, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service
received a call to a fire at a Paper Mill on Hilltop Road, Hamilton in Leicester.
A fire had started within machinery in the centre of the premises and quickly spread
to the roof of the property. Firefighters from Eastern, Central, Western, Southern,
Coalville, Wigston, Kibworth, Market Bosworth, Lutterworth and Syston Fire and
Rescue Stations attended, making a total of fifty firefighters in attendance at the
height of the fire.
Firefighters entered the single storey premise, measuring 400m x 200m, wearing
breathing apparatus. Due to the severity of the fire, internal conditions within the
building were very hazardous to those carrying out firefighting operations. Firefighters
used the Aerial Ladder Platform to fight the fire from above and cooled the roof to
prevent the fire from spreading.
Firefighters are still at the incident attempting to control the fire and are working with
contractors to remove sections of the roof panels to locate the sources of the fire and
prevent further spread. Further information will be released when available.
