Fire Engines Donated To Haskovo Fire Department

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are donating two fire engines that have
reached the end of their operational life to the Haskovo City Fire Department in
Bulgaria.

These engines are being retired as part of our 12 year replacement programme
which provides the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with the latest
equipment and technology.

On Tuesday 11 th March, the Governor, Mayor, Police Director and Fire Department
Director of Haskovo, along with other guests are visiting our Service Headquarters in
Glenfield to view the vehicles and equipment that will be taken to Haskovo on June
6 th 2008 by volunteer firefighters.

The redundant fire engines will be delivered to Haskovo by a team of ten volunteers
that have funded their 2000mile trip, travelling through seven European countries, by
raising enough sponsorship money to cover the costs themselves.

In the past 6 years, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have donated several
vehicles to Leicester’s twin town of Haskovo as they are desperately needed to
replace the 35 year old Russian vehicles that have been Haskovo’s firefighting front
line response for a number of years.
