Firefighters Return Victorious From The Crumball Rally!
The team of firefighters from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service returned from the Crumball Rally triumphant after winning the 1500 mile trek across Europe in an old car worth less than £180 and completing various challenges.
Andy Kirk, Sam Greasley, Ed Rogers and Rich Nurse took the title of Crumball Champions 2009 in Bruges, Brussels, winning Best Car, Best Fancy Dress, and completing all the set challenges with the most points.
Over £1000 of sponsorship has been raised by the team for Children in Need and Cancer Research and the car itself is to be auctioned on Ebay with the proceeds also to be donated to charity.
Andy Kirk, Station Manager for Community Safety and ‘Les Pompiers’ team member said:
“We thought the car wasn’t going to make it as the clutch started to slip after the first mile and the rear bumper fell off on the third day!
“We just hoped and prayed that the car would finish in one piece and it did!”
