Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to Hold Spray Art Showcase

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) would like to invite the media to the FireWall Project’s Graffiti Jam Showcase from 10am on Sunday 24 May 2009 at Braunstone Adventure Playground, 8 Cort Crescent, Leicester, Leicestershire LE3 1QZ.

The showcase will be of experienced, professional spray can artists from Nottingham, Brighton, London and Derby painting murals on the walls of the centre. The response from artists around the country was overwhelming and only the most positive and talented were selected to take part.

The project is being run alongside LFRS Arson Task Force in order to give young people the opportunity to try something new and creative in order to steer them from anti social behaviours and gain some diverse and positive role models.

It will be a community event aimed at the older teenagers and young adults of the area. Following on from the showcase, a series of workshops will be held at which young people will be able to learn to develop their spray art techniques.

Richard Curtis, Firefighter from Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station, Spray Can Artist and curator of the FireWall event, says:

"This is a great opportunity for LFRS and the young people of the area to collaborate on a joint project. It will be good to get out into the community as a representative of the fire service and also to get across that we are also people and we have similar interests.

The showcase will be a brilliant way of getting young people involved in something creative which could lead to fantastic opportunities for those who work hard and apply themselves. The artists involved have made a success out of their hobby and talent, and I hope that this will encourage the young people to give it a good go.”
