Central Fire and Rescue Station Gets a Refurbishment

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) are proud to announce the refurbishment of Central Fire and Rescue Station on Lancaster Place in Leicester City at a cost of approximately £4.5m.

The station will soon have modern training facilities and will offer greater accessibility to the public with a multifunctional community meeting room. It will have a greater energy efficiency rate and will have additional work places for 15 members of staff.

Dave Glenis, Head of Operational Technical Services, said:

“Although this thorough modernisation of the building is underway, it will maintain its grade two listed building status and LFRS are working alongside Leicester City Council to guarantee this.

It is an important building, not only to us, but also to the city and we believe that through this redevelopment we can move forward whilst retaining the image of the oldest station within Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service”

The refurbishment has been approved by the Combined Fire Authority (CFA). Peter Roffey, Chairman of the CFA, said:

“The CFA believe that investing in this development is important to the service offered by LFRS. Although it could be seen as a big investment, the interior of the building is presently unfit for the needs of a 21st century fire and rescue service and has been incurring disproportionate maintenance costs for some years now. This major refurbishment will enable us to provide a more satisfactory working environment for our staff, make fuller use of available space and help us become more open to the public”
