Firefighters are Commended for Outstanding Efforts at Incident

Members of the media are invited to attend Western Fire and Rescue Station, Aikman Avenue at 1pm on Friday 20 February 2009, where two firefighters are to be officially commended for their actions whilst in attendance at a flat fire that took place last year.

Julian Harding and Alan Mackie, both based at Western Fire and Rescue Station, attended the incident on Tournament Road in Leicester on 30 April 2008. They both entered the first floor property, wearing breathing apparatus, to extinguish the fire. The property had been set alight by the occupant and a gas cooker was turned on creating a great risk of explosion. The firefighters made the property safe and prevented the fire from spreading.

A representative from Her Majesty’s Court Service (HMCS) will present the certificates of commendation, awarded to both firefighters, for their courage and professionalism in their actions at this incident. The presentation will also be attended by Peter Roffey, Chairman of the Combined Fire Authority and Dave Webb, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer as well as colleagues and guests of the firefighters.
