FireFit Initiative Continues to Teach Children the Importance of Fire Safety
Members of the media are invited to attend Warren Hills Community School in Coalville on Thursday 19 March at 10am and also to attend Heather Primary School in Coalville on Friday 20 March at 10am to celebrate the continued success of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s FireFit initiative.
Pupils will be taking part in the initiative, aimed at engaging children in a range of activities involving agility, games, balance and recognition whilst also teaching them about the dangers of fire, the procedure in an emergency situation and how they would go about calling the fire service for help.
The FireFit scheme was launched In June 2008 and firefighters were aiming to reach 700 children at schools throughout Leicestershire. This target has been met and over 2000 pupils will have completed the initiative by the end of March 2009.
If funding is available, firefighters will continue to educate even more children about fire safety as well as showing them the importance of healthy living and eating.
