Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Continue to Consult with the General Public Over Their Integrated Risk Management Plan 2009-2012

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are continuing to hold a consultation period regarding the Integrated Risk Management Plan 2009-2012 (IRMP). This IRMP will be the consultation document to shape us for the next three years. The process started on 1 August 2009 and runs for 12 weeks.
The proposals for consultation in this IRMP include:

  • To provide a new Fire and Rescue Station at Castle Donington
  • The closure Moira Fire and Rescue Station
  • To provide a new Fire and Rescue Station at Birstall
  • The removal of the retained section at Loughborough Station
  • The closure of Syston Fire and Rescue Station
  • Providing an additional 14 firefighters at Melton Mowbray Fire and Rescue Station
  • The reduction of the number of firefighters at Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station by eight
  • To make a change to our ‘ridership calculation’ which determines the number of firefighters required for each position at all wholetime crewed stations
  • To make changes to our crewing levels at some wholetime crewed stations
  • Establishing a team of eight firefighters to provide improved resilience, particularly at retained station

Ian Scarrott, Deputy Chief and Rescue Officer for LFRS states:

"The consultation process has been underway now for some seven weeks and
has been very widely advertised to the general public, particularly in the most
affected areas. The IRMP plan has been made available to the general
public via our website and through libraries and we have written directly to
some of our more affected stakeholders to make them aware of our
proposals and to invite them to consultation events. We have asked
consultation specialists to help us gather the views of various groups of
people via the consultation events."

"So far, we are very pleased with the level of response we have achieved
through the consultation process but we would like to remind people that
there is still time for the to make their views known and have a say in shaping
the future of their fire and rescue service."

"Since the first IRMP, in 2003, we have made a number of significant
improvements to our own infrastructure and to the service we provide and
we aim to continue with this through our 2009 – 12 IRMP.
We continue to strive to ‘Do more with the same rather than the same with
less’. LFRS have not made budget cuts and we are not making budget cuts
with the 2009-12 IRMP, it is only about Service improvement.”

LFRS positively encourages all members of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland communities to take part in the IRMP Consultation. This can be done via the IRMP webpage which you will find on the homepage of our website:
