Invitation to Attend Media Opportunity
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service invite you to attend a media opportunity on: -
Tuesday 12 January
11am
Southern Fire and Rescue Station, Meridian East, Leicester LE19 1WZ
After a series of tragic incidents in which people and pets have lost their lives, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are serious about getting the message across to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to stay off the ice during these extreme weather conditions.
Interviews and Imagery
Following two incidents at Hicks Lodge Lake over the weekend where one dog was rescued live from the water and another dog died; the owner of the dog that survived will be available to speak to the media to add impact to the key message of staying off the ice. If well enough, her dog, Monty, will be present too. Firefighters that attended these incidents will be available for interview.
Officers that attended the Watermead Park incident on Friday 8 January will also be available to talk first hand about the dangers of venturing onto the ice, how people can so easily lose their life and the impact it has on the emergency services. We are still talking to relatives of the deceased and there is a possibility that one of the surviving brothers might be available to talk to the media. We will confirm this during the morning of 12 January as soon as possible.
Firefighters from our Technical Rescue Team will also be present to demonstrate the inflatable paths and other equipment used to affect ice rescues.
