Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service - Haiti Update

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s Mark Bryers and Kalpesh Diyar and the rest of the Humanity First UK medical team (HFUK) have now been in Haiti for nine days. They have been working in conjunction with the Humanity First Canada and US teams with support from the UN at a refugee camp in Carrefour.

Mark and Kalpesh have been treating both trauma and non-earthquake related patients and medical needs are now shifting from earthquake trauma towards the management of conditions. Working between Carrefour and Port-au-Prince they have seen over 3000 patients, including close to 500 patients over a very busy but productive weekend. Though this number is high, there has been a reduction in the amount of people that need treatment following the earthquake.

The HFUK team are all safe and well and Mark and Kalpesh will be leaving Haiti on Monday evening or Tuesday morning, returning to the UK at the end of this week.
