Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti on 12 January 2010 specialist personnel from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) flew to Haiti on Friday 22 January to give medical help to people injured and affected by the quake.
Background Information
LFRS personnel Mark Bryers and Kalpesh Diyar went to Haiti as part of a medical team with Humanity First UK, an international aid agency. They formed part of a team with some of the country’s leading physicians, paramedics and surgeons.
Mark, Kalpesh and the team have treated both trauma and non-earthquake related patients with a focus on administering post-operative care, especially for amputees, treating infected open fractures and giving help to people who suffer with chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes. Working between Carrefour and Port-au-Prince the team has seen over 3000 patients.
Interviews
Both Mark and Kalpesh will be available for interview.
Dave Webb, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer for LFRS, will also be available for interview.
