On-Call Firefighters’ Open Day at Lutterworth Fire and Rescue Station

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite members of the media to attend a recruitment day on:

10am – 3pm

Saturday 20 March 2010

Lutterworth Fire and Rescue Station, Gilmorton Road, Lutterworth LE17 4DZ

Background Information

The day is an opportunity for people who would like to find out more about a career as an on-call firefighter. There will be opportunities to learn about the aspects of being an on-call firefighter with a variety of staff from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service who will be available to give demonstrations of fitness tests, fire kit used at incidents and discuss the training modules required to join.

On the day there will be chances for interested people to experience the various tests required to become an on-call firefighter such as the manual dexterity test, the kit carry, the step test and finding your way through a smoke filled compartment.

Paul Weston, District Manager for the South Group, said:

‘This exciting day aims to promote the significance of on-call firefighters in the community and also the benefits of becoming an on-call firefighter. It is important that we recruit more on-call firefighters as they provide vital support to their local communities, particularly in rural areas.

There will be plenty to do on the day, with opportunities to undertake some of the tests to become a retained firefighter, and there will be ample opportunity for interested people to ask questions with regards to possibly becoming a retained firefighter.’
