Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Reports Best Performance for Five Years
Following both external independent surveys and the publication of its own internal performance figures, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service can report that it is achieving its highest performance for five years.
Levels of public satisfaction with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, as measured by a recent independent survey, found massive public confidence in the Service with only 0.6 % of the public not being satisfied with the level of service they receive.
Alongside this, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has reported its best overall performance figures for five years; meeting or exceeding its national performance indicators and continuing to show high performance against the suite of locally set performance targets.
This achievement is set against the fact that Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Combined Fire Authority is the lowest spending combined fire authority in the country, with the average household council tax set at just over £1 per week for the service.
Ian Scarrott, Deputy Chief Fire and Rescue Officer said:
‘It’s particularly pleasing to be able to report year on year reductions in the number of fires and road traffic collisions we attend along with continuing downward trends in the really important areas such as the number of deaths and injuries in domestic fires’
He went on to say:
‘The figures reflect the total contribution of every firefighter and member of support staff to making Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland a safer place.’

Public sector services, including fire and rescue services, now have a new way of seeing how well they are achieving value for money. The Audit Commission has launched new value for money profiles for councils and fire and rescue authorities. The profiles are on the Commission’s website for authorities to use to help them evaluate how well they deliver value for money.
Auditors and assessors will use the profiles as part of their assessments for Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA).
These new easy-to-use profiles, which are best used interactively, compare spending and performance to other bodies, have a clearer focus on value for money and track spending over time to assess the impact of improvements.
The tools highlight areas where costs and or performance look out of line and can help local services identify where there may be potential for savings. They also contain useful background and context information to help you to understand value for money issues for each service area.
