Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Exercise Their Business Continuity Plans

As an emergency first responder, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has, under the Civil Contingencies Act, a duty to devise, maintain and test its business continuity arrangements.

For 2010, the business continuity team has implemented a ‘no notice’ exercise on the organisation, that has resulted from 0730 hours this morning, in the temporary closure of Western Fire and Rescue Station, Leicester.

The availability of the fire engines from this station is unaffected, but access to the station for both employees of the fire service and the public is currently denied. At this moment, crews are re-locating to a temporary location approximately a mile away and the on-duty manager is being briefed on the exercise details.

The exercise is expected to last a number of days in order to fully test the arrangements that are in place for such a possibility.
