Safer Neighbourhoods
This section provides a number of advice pages covering many aspects of community safety and outlines a number of ways in which we can help you.
As part of Our Plan for the future we aim to help create ‘Safer Communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’. In our Safer Neighbourhoods Team we have responsibility, through our specialist sections, to address a wide and varied number of issues in order to achieve our Service’s overall aim.
Our team provides support to not only Fire and Rescue Stations, but to a wide and varied number of partner agencies all focused in addressing the needs of our communities in the area of fire and road safety through prevention and intervention.
We aim to provide a wide range of services through local strategic partnerships of public, private and voluntary sector organisations all carried out in support of community cohesion, neighbourhood renewal and crime prevention and reduction.
Through partnerships we are able to identify, support and assist vulnerable persons within the community by visiting them in their homes, fitting smoke detectors and discussing a ‘safer home strategy’ in order to protect them against the outbreak of fire in their property.
Our team works in support of our geographical districts in providing information, data and resources as well as advice to ensure they are well equipped to address the needs of our local community.
Research, analysis and evaluation underpins much of our prevention activity, from helping us to decide which households should be targeted for Home Fire Safety Checks to which road users should be targeted for road safety campaigns. We regularly share information with other organisations such as the Police and Local Authorities so that together we tackle the issues most affecting our local neighbourhoods and help make them safer.
