Our Services
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s core business is that of Prevention, Protection and Response. To help us maintain our focus with those work streams we have devised a short statement to tell us why we are here, this is our mission statement; “making our communities safer”.
However, as an organisation that is integral to the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland we know that we cannot just stand still, that we must have a vision of where we are going and where we want to be. To help us do this we have a primary aim to help create “safer communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland” and we do this largely through a process of education that will help to make our Service area a good place to live, where we can support our communities to be responsible and safe.
When trying to explain what the Service’s core business is, it is perhaps most straight forward to think of Response as our front line service dealing with emergencies, Protection is our management of risk through enforcement of legislation, whilst Prevention is our coordinated support of a wide range of initiatives that inform and educate in order to improve safety across the county and Rutland. Prevention work is largely delivered by our operational station based staff, strongly supported by our Community Safety Support Group. Whilst most of this work is about the delivery of home grown programmes and initiatives, we also promote national campaigns and work with partners to achieve the goals of the safer, stronger and sustainable communities agenda.
School Education Team
Currently we have three educators delivering our schools education programme. All are retired firefighters, and they bring in vast amount of operational experience to deliver a structured talk. The programme is delivered to Years 1 and 5 pupils in primary schools, and Year 8 in secondary schools. For more information on education, click here
Firecare
Firecare is a free, confidential service for young fire setters from 3 to 18 years, and their families, across the whole service area (Leicester, Leics and Rutland). The aim is to educate the young person about the dangers of fire and deter them from further fire setting. Referrals are taken from anyone; either directly from parents or from any agency with parental permission to refer, and can be made over the phone through the Firecare Coordinator or via information services.
