What services are provided?

Pre Employment Health Assessment
Identifies and protects individual from personal risks by ensuring that applicants are medically fit to undertake their proposed duties and that their health will not be affected by their work or working environment.

Post Employment Health Referrals
Referrals to the Occupational Health Unit are made by employers where the health of the employee is causing concern because of long term absence, frequent short term absence or risk to safety because of a health issue.

  • Fire Service personnel can refer themselves to the department on a confidential basis.
  • All personal medical information remains confidential unless signed consent is given
  • Advice is available on rehabilitation, redeployment, medical retirement and adjustments required under the Disability Discrimination Act.

Health Surveillance
Checking and monitoring employee's health where specific hazards have been identified. Some surveillance is required by law, but in most cases it is simply carried out to protect the health of the employee. For example:

  • Hearing Tests
  • Lung function tests
  • Vision Tests

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
A very important aspect of maintaining a healthy workforce. Advice can be provided on an individual or group basis. The issues addressed can be general or specific depending on the requirements. For example:

  • Heart health
  • Exercise and weight management
  • Healthy eating

Counseling
Advice and referral to appropriate specialist can be arranged based on individual assessment.

Statutory HGV/PSV Medicals
These are periodic assessments undertaken in accordance with the DVLA.

Other Vocational Driving Screening
Periodic health assessments for fork lift drivers and company drivers to ensure that they are fit for their driving duties.

Health and Safety Advice
Specific advice can be given on work related health issues in line with current legislation. For example:

  • Risk Assessments
  • Manual Handling
  • Display Screen Equipment

Advice can also be given on work related health issues affecting particular groups or individuals, in line with current legislation. For example:

  • Pregnant Women
  • Nursing Mothers
  • Disabled Employees
  • Young Workers

Work Place Visits
Work place health visits can be carried out where particular health/job issues occur, to support risk assessments or surveillance.

Rehabilitation
An important aspect in return to work programmes is the rehabilitation of an individual. Advice can be provided and appropriate referrals arranged.
