Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to promoting safety awareness in relation to product safety and recalls. We are therefore mindful that from time to time some recalls relate to products where there may be a risk of fire.
The majority of products in your home will be safe but you should regularly check to ensure none of your household appliances are subject to a recall.
For more information on product recalls you can visit the Electrical Safety First website. Alongside this, you can also register your electrical products by visiting the Register Your Appliance website. This makes it possible for the manufacturer to easily get in touch with you if it turns out that the item you’ve bought is somehow faulty or dangerous. This could be of benefit to you as electrical products are recalled more regularly than you might think, but typically only 10-20% of these recalled products are actually returned and/or repaired. This is something we would also advise you to do.

If you are concerned about a product that doesn’t appear on the recall list, stop using it immediately and make your concern known to the retailer, manufacturer or local Trading Standards office.
You can also find more information about the checks and precautions you should take when using electrical equipment by visiting our electrics page.
