            What do Braunstone Blues do?

The team work with partners and residents of Braunstone to deliver a healthier, safer and more secure community by educating and directing residents to appropriate services via a home visit service and delivering appropriate campaigns, to reduce the number of emergency calls in the area.

Why the need for Braunstone Blues?

Braunstone Blues was set up earlier this year following research showing that Braunstone Park and Rowley Fields Ward generated the highest amount of emergency calls for all three of the blue light services for Leicestershire. There have been similar projects in Margate and Greater Manchester that have been successful in reducing demand, cost and efficiency savings for all agencies involved. The projects have also tackled broader issues such as mental health, reducing the use of drugs, general welfare needs and further education initiatives. Braunstone Blues is a two year project set up to engage with the Braunstone community to reduce demand for emergency services. Their aim is to educate and inform residents of alternative options to calling the emergency services for non-emergency problems which could be dealt with by other means, which in turn will reduce the number of emergency calls and attendances to the area. The team are about getting the community together, raising community spirits through events and campaigns delivering key health, safety and security messages.

            What are the Key messages:
            • Reduce demand by educating the community and working closely with partners
            • Doing home visits to identify problems and offer appropriate advice and support and signposting to other services
            • Work with partners to create a joined up and informed community that look after each other
            • Braunstone Blues working together to create a healthy, safe, secure Braunstone
What are home visits and why do Braunstone Blues do them?

Home visits are a free 30 minute service the team offer to understand and identify any problems or risks residents may have. The team can then give appropriate advice and information on home and vehicle security, safety in the home, fire and child safety and health and wellbeing and direct them to correct services and channels. The team also offer help with loneliness, anxiety, depression and dealing with antisocial behaviour. Each home visit is tailored to suit each person or family’s needs and information about other organisations that may be able to help is available during the visit.

Who do Braunstone Blues work with?

The team work with a number of partners, organisations such as Leicester City Council, Housing, GPs, pharmacies, schools and community groups as well as working closely with Braunstone residents and local voluntary groups such as B-Connected. Working with partners helps to make a sustainable community where Braunstone residents know who to turn to when they are in need, without having to ring 999.

            Where are Braunstone Blues based?

The team are currently based in the heart of Braunstone at Caldecote Community Primary School, but spend a lot of their time out in the community conducting home visits and working with local groups and partners.
